I’m working this Saturday night (I’m usually Monday through Friday) and I don’t really mind. The assignment is pretty interesting. Richmond CenterStage is FINALLY opening. I say finally because it’s been EIGHT years in the making. I’ve only lived in Richmond a short time, but even I know this project has taken a long, long time. But it really does appear to be worth the wait. The renovations are amazing. In the theatre you feel transported to a Mediterranean cafe.
And the folks over at Capital Results who handled the Grand Opening really outdid themselves. It was one of the best ribbon cuttings I’ve ever had to cover. There wasn’t just a pair of giant scissors and a bunch of dignitaries…. there was a band, confetti and dozens of performers marching down the street. People in the crowd were dancing and clapping along. Now, we just have to see if the venue keeps this momentum. There’s so much happening in the downtown along Broad Street. I think all we need now is more restaurants and stores in this area. I can’t wait to see what Broad and Grace Streets look like in 10 years.
